Subhead 1 is the second level of numbering in this document and h 2 t tells indesign to type the chapter number h a period the subhead number 2 and a tab t in front of the each subhead 1 1 1 1 2 1 3.

In indesign it is possible to segregate the document into sections to specify different types of page numbers for different types of content. In the pages panel select the page where you want the new numbering style section to begin. As necessary specify the numbering and section options see document numbering options and then click ok.

You need to repeat this process and create sections for each of your 50 chapters. For example if you re creating a book you might want to specify the beginning chapters such as acknowledgements and preface in roman numerals while the actual chapters have normal numbers.
